Refractory materials encompass a wide range of types and an even wider range of applications.
Refractory materials encompass a wide range of types and applications. Common refractory materials include:
Clay bricks are made from refractory clay or kaolin and clay clinker, with a binding clay, formed using a semi-dry or plastic method, and fired at 1250-1420℃. Clay bricks generally have a refractoriness of 1580℃-1750℃ and a load softening temperature of 1250℃-1450℃. Common clay bricks include national standard clay bricks and hot blast stove clay bricks.
High-alumina bricks are made from high-grade natural bauxite as a raw material, containing minerals such as gibbsite, boehmite, and kaolinite. Soft or semi-soft clay is added as a binder to the high-alumina clinker, followed by mixing, molding, drying, and firing. High-alumina bricks have a refractoriness of around 1770℃ and a load softening temperature of 1420℃-1550℃. Common high-alumina bricks include LZ-65, LZ-55, and LZ-48.
Mullite bricks are silicon-aluminum refractory products with mullite as the main crystalline phase, generally containing 60%-75% alumina. They are classified into sintered mullite bricks and fused cast mullite bricks according to their manufacturing process.
Corundum bricks are refractory products with corundum as the main crystalline phase. Common corundum bricks include white corundum bricks, brown corundum bricks, and chrome corundum bricks.
Clay castables use refractory clay clinker as aggregate, with alumina powder and soft clay binder added. Mixed in a mixer for over 5 minutes according to the formula, the typical operating temperature is 1300-1450℃.
High-alumina castables use high-alumina bauxite clinker as aggregate, refractory clay as powder, and aluminate cement and sodium tripolyphosphate added according to the formula. The operating temperature is 1400-1550℃.
High-alumina sprayables use mullite, corundum fine powder, and high-alumina bauxite as main raw materials. Additives and binders are added according to a certain proportion, mixed and stirred to form a refractory sprayable, suitable for spraying the inner lining of high-temperature kilns.
Low-temperature curing castables use mullite, zircon, kyanite, sillimanite, silicon carbide, etc., as main refractory raw materials. Powder and binder are added according to a certain proportion, mixed and cured at 100-300℃, forming a high-strength, low linear change rate, non-shrinkage, non-expansion, airtight, and high-refractoriness refractory material.
Silicon carbide ramming mass uses silicon carbide, graphite, and smokeless coal as main raw materials, with ultrafine powder additives and electric melting cement or resin as binder. This monolithic refractory material is suitable for high-temperature kilns such as blast furnaces, boilers, and rotary kilns.
Common refractory materials include refractory bricks and monolithic refractory materials such as castables, sprayables, and ramming mass. Appropriate refractory materials can be selected for different high-temperature kiln linings and repairs based on requirements and kiln environment.
